CHANGES 19 47
Table XI shqws the distribution of prisoners of war released, to the
U.S. Zone in 1947 by countries or zone of entry. However, the figures give
a
false impression with respect to the last six months of 1947 and the beginning
of 1948. Of the 1947 total, the U.S. Army released 85,000. all within the
first six months. Since the summer of 1947, the majority of prisoners of
war
were returned through the Soviet Zone.
