the 17,000,000 inhabitants of the US Zone are
fed. By programs which look toward keeping
prices within reach of the average consumer,
distributing available food equitably, secur-
ing adequate supplies for farmers, transport-
ing food from farms to areas in which it is
consumed, maximizing indigenous agriculture,
and by importing food from the United States,
the US Zone has been able to maintain
ration scale of 1,330 calories per day for the
normal consumer in cities of 20,000 and over
and one of 1,185 calories in areas with a popu-
lation of less than 20,000.
