Encoding Description

Encoded according to Guidelines for Markup of Electronic Texts: UW-Madison Libraries, version 2.0, Pedagogical Level.

The electronic transcription includes the entire text of the original document, however editorial additions and corrections have been included. This TEI project is not intended to exactly duplicate the layout nor the structure of the original text. Editorial improvements have been included with the hope that it will increase usability and findability. For example, whereas the original text did not list the individual academic articles included in the CD, this TEI project does list each included article individually.

The transcription replicates the typeface of the original wherever possible: generally, the main title and body of the text is in roman face. In the English language section, non-English words are in italics within the English articles. Other parts of the text are in italics if that part of the original manifesto was originally presented in that manner. The headings and title of each chapter/manifesto are in bold. Author's names under their respective titles are encoded as rend="small-caps". Words that were hyphenated in the original in order to conserve line-spacing have had their hyphens removed.

The names of articles are assumed to be rendered in bold as the article titles are marked up as head

Book names have been encoded with bibland title level="m" tags with the CSS rendering these in italics.

The author of each respective article has been marked up with byline rend="small-caps"

Journals/periodicals and newspaper names have been encoded with bibland title level="j" tags with the CSS rendering these in italics.

Hanging indents are rendered with rend="hindentn2".

Abbrevations were marked up, wherever possible with abbr expan

Blogs and articles from Web pages were marked up with bibl title level="j" even though they are not journals, because they are rendered in italics.

Software names are rendered in italics and marked up with name type="software" and hi rend="italic".

Videos, movie titles, and podcasts rendered in italics are marked up with hi rend="italic".

Page numbers were deleted from the TEI electronic version, including from the table of contents.

The bibliography from the CD that accompanied the book was edited for errors which may inadvertently been published with the original text.

It was intentional that we respected the format of the individual Cartonera's bibliographic citations and so any inconsistencies reflect their individual natures.
