Copenhagen University, ca. 1840. Colored etching by C. Lund. The university's monumental new main building, designed by Peder Malling (1781-1865), was dedicated in 1836. A highly original synthesis of classical and medieval styles, it is the foremost example of Danish "Romantic" architecture. Jónas was very familiar with this building, which opened during his fourth year of studies at the university, and he alludes to one of its most salient features in his late poem "Horn Crag."
