Woman's Christian Temperance Union (Delavan, Wis.) Records, 1902-1960

Biography/History

The Delavan chapter of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was organized in 1874 as an auxiliary of the Walworth County, state, national, and world Unions. The group was active in a number of civic and social reform efforts in addition to temperance reform and regular monthly temperance meetings. Among these were women's suffrage, Sunday gospel gatherings, music programs, youth activities, speakers, and voter's programs. The members were also involved in fund-raising, both for the local chapter and for overseas missionary work, and held dinners and socials. In 1924 the Delavan chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary.
