The collection is mainly comprised of radio scripts written as a
newsman for WRC, 1956-1970; only fragmentary correspondence relates to
his management of editorial services. The papers are arranged into
three groups: Biographical Material, Correspondence, and Scripts.
CORRESPONDENCE, 1956-1973, is mainly comprised of audience mail,
requests for transcripts, inter-office memoranda, and congratulatory
messages sent to Rash upon joining WRC in 1956 and upon his promotion
in 1970. Although they are noteworthy largely for their autograph
value, there are letters from Hale Boggs, Julian Goodman, James C.
Hagerty, J. Edgar Hoover, Hubert H. Humphrey, Kenneth Keating, Robert
Kintner, Lee Metcalf, Richard M. Nixon, Lawrence F. O'Brien, and A.A.
Schecter.
The SCRIPTS, 1958-1970, which also include a number of Rash's ideas
for future programs, are divided by media. Most fully represented are
his contributions to the network radio programs Emphasis, Monitor and News on the Hour and his editorials on WRC-
TV's late evening news report. Broadest coverage is given to the mid
and late 1960's, with reports running the gamut from human interest
stories for Emphasis and Monitor to
editorial comment on national and international events such as the 1960
presidential election and the Cuban missile crisis. Four recordings of
Rash's television program Ask Washington are included in
the NBC collection (Disc 45A).
