David P. Harmon Papers, 1941-1964

Biography/History

David Phillip Harmon, the son of Sol L. and Rose Herman, was born in Buffalo, New York on September 3, 1918. He received a B.A. degree from Ohio State University in 1940, and immediately entered the field of show business as a song writer.

In 1942, Mr. Harmon changed to radio, and became a staff writer with CBS in New York. From 1943 to 1944, he was a radio writer for the Wrigley Company in Chicago, and during this time won an award from the War Writer's Board. He returned to New York as a free-lance writer for radio, and in 1947 started in television as a writer-actor-director. In 1954 he moved to Hollywood and became a film writer. Since that time he has been free-lancing in both television and motion pictures. His television credits include programs such as Rawhide, The Rifleman, The Untouchables, and Valentine's Day and anthologies such as The Dick Powell Show and Studio One.

Mr. Harmon was a council member of the Writer's Guild of America, West from 1959 to 1965. He is married; has three children, Nikki, Ross, and Randi; and resides in Pacific Palisades, California.
