Green Bay Mss 116
Part 1 (Green Bay Mss 116, PH 3864): Original Collection, 1916-1977
Physical Description: 12.4 cubic feet (31 archives boxes) and 22 photographs
Scope and Content Note: Part 1 of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Records, 1916-1977, consists of ten series: ADMINISTRATIVE RECORDS, CORRESPONDENCE, DIVISIONS, COMMITTEE RECORDS, SUBJECT FILES, UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY, GREEN BAY PACKERS, PUBLICATIONS, FINANCIAL RECORDS and PHOTOGRAPHS. Records of the organizations antecedent to the Association, established November 13, 1916, are absent from the collection. The bulk of the records documents the period from 1960 to 1975, although there is summary documentation of the period from 1916 to 1960 in the complete run of minutes, 1917-1969; and committee minute books, 1917-1948. Documented activities of the Association during this period include war loan drives during World War I and World War II, community celebrations, industrial development, Green Bay Packer support, and construction of a post office. The records dating from 1960 to 1977, provide excellent documentation of the business community in the Green Bay area with special emphasis on its political activism at the federal, state and local levels. Of special note is the documentation of the development of the Port of Green Bay. Documentation of the impact on Green Bay of the professional football team the Green Bay Packers and of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is also strong. Other activities include downtown retail promotion, automobile safety, development of subsidized housing, and operation of a credit bureau and a tourist information center.
Series: Administrative Records
Scope and Content Note: These consist of a small amount of historical materials, a complete run of minutes from 1917 through 1969, and Board of Directors Files which consist of minutes, correspondence, news clippings, some financial records and other materials. The Board of Directors' minutes and files have some overlap in content, but are largely complementary. The records also contain limited documentation of policies and procedures of the Chamber and working papers concerning merger proposals with the De Pere Chamber of Commerce.
