Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1893-2004 (bulk 1950-2004), consisting of records of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union and its predecessor unions, including materials relating to the initial merger of the Retail Workers International Union and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen and subsequent mergers with other unions. Materials include constitution and merger agreements, convention materials, minutes, photographs of meetings, strikes, workers on the jobs, executives, political conventions; tape recordings of conferences and promotional spots; microfilm, scrapbooks, posters, and artifacts of UFCW, the predecessor unions and their respective locals. The video portion of this accession pertains primarily to the AFL-CIO, Retail Clerks International Union, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, and the United Packinghouse Workers of America (UPWA). Subjects filmed include press coverage, conventions, a civil rights seminar, and other activities. Integrates M88-193, M94-221 and part of M89-437. This accession now includes video tapes from M85-210, M86-285, M86-453, and M2002-002.
