Correspondence with individuals and organizations, 1918-1955 : The correspondence in these files is between the Secretary-Treasurer, Chairman, President, Editors, Vera Dean and members, organizations, and financial contributors, regarding general administrative and financial matters, the development of program materials, publications, and conferences. Some folders contain Dean correspondence with authors and organizations and include manuscripts, reports, copies of speeches, etc. Material before 1940 is fragile. This correspondence is most similar to correspondence found in the Presidents' files for later dates. : The files are not in a straight alphabetical listing.

Series: Publications and Editorial Services [Program Materials Department] : This department most likely grew out of the Research Department and eventually become the Program Materials Department Similar and related materials on publications are located here and with the Research Department files. After the close of the Research Department, Vera Dean headed the Publications Department when she became editor for the Headline Series and the Foreign Policy Bulletin (publication ends 1961), circa 1951. The Program Materials Department subsumes the roles of the Publications Department around 1960. Philip Van Slyck is the initial editor in charge of the Headline Series and the editor of the “Great Decisions” materials. Norman Jacobs succeeds Van Slyck as editor circa 1965.

Series: National Services (and the World Affairs Center) : The FPA National Services program office oversaw programs, conferences, and program resources; conducted outreach to national organizations; promoted books and pamphlets; and provided information and reference on foreign policy. This office was at time connected to the activities of the World Affairs Center (opened circa 1954-55) which was associated with the United Nations Visitors Program and headed by Richard Winslow, director of the center, circa 1958. The WAC was transferred to the UNA-USA in 1969.

Series: Programs and Events : The Programs and Events series documents the activities of the Program Materials Department, the Office of Special Events, the Meeting Department, and the Public Information Department. Programs and events documented include FPA Associates events, the Off-the-Record (OTR) series, the Young Professionals Group (YPG), the Community Leaders Program (CLP), the annual “Great Decisions” luncheons with NBC correspondents, the New York Times events, and other luncheons with foreign prime ministers, senators, governors, and other individuals involved in foreign policy. The files contain event planning material which typically includes correspondence with invited speakers, the printed program for the event, the speech given at the event, press releases, seating lists, and related staff memoranda.

Events and luncheons, master file, 1953-1986 : Dubbed “manuals,” this master file contains event programs, seating lists, speaker information, correspondence, and transcripts of speeches-not all files are of equal completeness. There is some chronological overlap because the material originated from different departments involved, however the material is not duplicated. Speakers include foreign prime ministers, senators, governors, and other individuals involved in foreign policy such as Henry Kissinger, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Dean Rusk.
