Records, 1887-1990 (bulk 1919-1974), of the Wisconsin Child Center (WCC), including a variety of correspondence, subject files, reports and historical information. Reports include monthly, quarterly, annual, special, movement of the population, and population of children committed at the school. Reports may include information related to the reason for commitment, medical procedures, medication and information about the illnesses of children; admissions, children returned from boarding out; children separated from the school for placement; and deaths. There is also material related to budget and funding for the center; minutes; physical inventories; and general ledgers of furnishings and supplies of the Child Center campus. In addition to correspondence from the WCC, there are also correspondence and enrollment applications from the Tomah Indian School, 1934-1937.

Correspondence and subject files are organized by date ranges and may include child specific information including foster home expenses, financial records, and medical information. Other financial data includes trust funds; amusement funds; housing situations of the staff that lived on campus, supplies and commodities obtained, care of the farm and gardens, public assistance programs available to the center and campus building programs. Also of note are files related to Title I and documentation of what the Center used with those funds including vocational programs, equipment purchases, speech therapy, cultural trips, programs for physically impaired children; summer staffing; library services projects; funding summer camp activities and family orientations.

There is a small amount of information related to the annex, a boarding home for children of families unable to care for their disabled or special needs child. The Annex was open from 1929-1967 and files include staffing, schedules, and the needs of children.

Other files of interest include information about the history and development of the center prepared for government agencies; records (1918-1990) pertaining to the Wisconsin Child Center cemetery in Sparta, including burial plat maps and lists of burials; and finally material about the transfer of remaining children and the final closing of the center in 1976.
