The Human Rights Committee at University of Wisconsin - Madison was officially formed
after a resolution on human rights was passed by the Regents on November 11, 1950, and was
active until 1972.
In the original proposal, the committee was organized to consist of three faculty members
and two students, with proposed duties listed as: "1. to work toward elimination of racial
and religious discrimination against members of the University community through fact
finding and education; 2. To investigate alleged violations of human rights, and to report
these to the Administration of the University. 3. To keep faculty informed through periodic
reports, and to make recommendations on matters of policy."
