Biography/History

The Milwaukee Colony of New England Women, a branch of the National Society of New England Women, was organized and chartered in 1932 with six members. The society has as its goal “to bring together in social relations women of New England ancestry, to engage in patriotic, civic and philanthropic work.” Membership in the Colony is open to any woman over 18 years of age, who is descended from one or more ancestors born before 1789 in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Connecticut. The Milwaukee Colony holds monthly teas and meetings; studies the history, poetry and literature of New England and of Wisconsin; and contributes to the support of various local charities and organizations such as the Milwaukee Boys Club, scholarship funds, hospitals and the Red Cross.
