Roman B.J. Kwasniewski Papers, 1892-1953

Scope and Contents

The Rolf Freese Papers primarily contain letters written by Rolf to his parents and other family members during World War II, where he served as a non-commissioned officer in the German military. There are six letters from 1938-1940, then over 200 letters from between 1941 to 1943. Rolf was primarily writing to his family back in Germany from the Russian front of the war as the German military pushed into the Soviet Union.

Also included are around 60 letters from Rolf's family written to Rolf between the years of 1940 to 1943. Lastly, there are a small amount of Field Post Brief (Feldpostbrief) letters from 1941-1942, which seem to give brief accounts or updates of various German soldiers -- these may have been sent to Rolf's parents. All the letters in the collection are handwritten except for the Field Post Briefs.
