A group of black and white and color transparencies, black and white prints, and black and white negatives. The series consists primarily of farm and industrial equipment images of the type the International Harvester Company used in its product literature such as catalogs, brochures, and print advertisements, and other forms of company advertising such as press releases. For the most part they document the equipment working in the field and in industry. It seems likely that the series was originally stored at International Harvester Company's Hinsdale facility in Illinois where the company had an experimental farm.

Some two-thirds of the images are jacketed in paper envelopes with typewritten captions, negative (or job) numbers, and a set of numeric codes indicating major subject, minor subject, geographic region, year, crop or vocation, and extras (see appendices for list of codes). There were usually several images taken for each photo job or assignment, but each jacket will bear the same set of codes and same caption. Many, perhaps the majority, of the photographic prints appear to have once been glued onto some other sheet of paper, perhaps in photo albums identical to those found in the Photo Album series. The negative numbering system is consistent with other photographs in the collection taken for advertising or publication purposes. The captions on the jackets are detailed and extensive, telling when the photo was taken and by whom, what equipment is depicted, what it is doing, name of owner, etc. For each photographic assignment there also appears to be a photostatic copy of a release form filled out by the photographer giving additional information about the equipment shown and the company or owner. Among the details given are various costs of operating the equipment. In addition to 8x10 glossy black and white prints, the jackets usually contain 4x5 negatives. Some also include transparencies. The whole series probably comprises some kind of inactive file since the jackets have all been stamped “Killed” or “Destroyed.”

There was no discernible original order or arrangement except that unjacketed transparencies and negatives had, at some point, been boxed separately. Only some of the unjacketed items had been sleeved in plastic. The arrangement imposed on the series is as follows: unjacketed items have been sorted according to primary subject matter, size, and format. Formats include two Kodak color transparency processes (Kodachrome and Ektachrome), black and white negatives, and black and white transparencies. Sizes consist of 8x10-inch, 5x7, 4x5, and 2 1/4 square. Jacketed items have been arranged by negative number. A small amount of nitrate based material has been segregated and placed in a separate box.
