Scope and Content Note

Physical Collection

This subgroup includes records of standing and ad hoc committees. Records survive for many of the original twelve committees established at the organizing meeting. This part of the collection also provides extensive background information about two significant revisions in SAA's committee structure. In 1969, Council approved a revised structure of standing and ad hoc committees as set up by the president in consultation with other officers. This revised system remained in place until 1978, when Council adopted a three-part organization of committees, task forces, and professional affinity groups (PAGs). Typically, committee files may include correspondence, minutes, and reports. Researchers should also consult the records of the secretary and executive director, who receive committee reports.

This includes records of Council-appointed and/or elected committees, including their charge, reports, and meeting minutes. Also included are links to awards and other forms of recognition conferred by SAA as of August 2016.

Scope and Content Note
Physical Collection

Council created Professional Affinity Groups (PAGs) in 1978 to provide members with an opportunity to meet and work with others of similar backgrounds and professional interests. All PAGs were renamed as sections at the end of the annual business meeting in 1983. Files typically contain correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, newsletters and other publications relating to the work of the section. Researchers should also consult the records of the executive director, who receives section reports.

From 2009 to 2012, the Oral History Section created a series of interviews as part of the SAA 75th Anniversary Oral History Project. These interviews, along with previous oral histories, can be found under the Oral History Section records.
