: This series includes information on the Socialist Party’s founding, mergers,
splits and reorganizations over the years. The bulk of the material dates
from the 1940s to 1970s. There are several folders on the most recent
national reorganization in 1973 that created the Socialist Party, USA. Also
included are copies of constitutions, amendments and other governing body
documents such as platforms, principles, and programming. There are a few
documents on the office space, meeting procedures and some early charters
such as one from the American Railway Union, the earliest predecessor of the
Socialist Party.
