Bruno Voltaire Bitker was born in Milwaukee on February 5, 1899. He studied law at Cornell
University, was admitted to the Wisconsin bar, and began to practice law in 1921. His areas
of interest were human rights and international law. He received citations from the city of
Milwaukee for law and distinguished public service, and was honored by the Wisconsin Supreme
Court for lifelong services to the court and state.
Bitker was active in many organizations and commissions during his career. He was an
officer on the Governor's Commission on Human Rights from 1947-1956, and chairman for the
Governor's Committee on the United Nations from 1959-1976.
