Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, Homemaker's Club Records

Historical Note

It is unclear exactly when the La Crosse Vocational Homemaker’s Club was formed, however mention of the group in La Crosse newspapers begins as early as April 1925. They were one of several homemakers clubs in La Crosse County. The club was affiliated specifically with the La Crosse Vocational School and met within the school building once per month. The club’s name was later changed along with the school’s to the Coleman Vocational Homemaker’s Club in 1963, and then to the Western Wisconsin Technical Institute Homemaker’s Club in 1968.

The club’s objectives were to build relationships between women, improve home and family living, advance knowledge of homemaking ideas and techniques in their community, and “give homemakers the opportunity for self-expressoin in all phases of homemaking”. Club members also attended an annual Vocational Homemaker’s Conference sponsored by the Wisconsin Schools of Vocational and Adult Education.

The last known year of the club’s existence was 1983.
