Abstract: Collection of a UWM Music Department faculty member which largely focuses on the UWM International Festival of the Art Song. The collection includes correspondence, newspaper articles, programs, and photographs from 1981 to 1992. The collection also contains biographical materials documenting Yolanda Marculescu-Stern's career as an opera singer in Bucharest, Romania, including photographs and correspondence, and materials of her involvement in Romanian Radio Television from 1957 to 1969. Videocassettes of the First, Third, and Fifth International Festival of the Art Song, as well as videos of recitals and interviews, are also included.

Abstract: Records of the Milwaukee Federation and individual chapters of the Catholic action youth group, Young Christian Workers. Included are agendas, correspondence, financial records, minutes, newsletters, and reports. The records document YCW programs and projects such as the Basic Social Action Program, workshops on dating, retreats, International Days and Weeks, special inquiries on migrant workers and racial discrimination, study days and weekends, and training courses. Scrapbooks document Milwaukee's participation in the September 1957 International YCW Pilgrimage to Rome and YCW Teachers' Group. Also present are a few records of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Association of Catholic Trade Unionists (1940-43), the Cardijn Center, the Christian Family Movement, and the College Young Christian Students.

Abstract: Records, mainly 1968-1972, of the official youth organization of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin which for most of its history was known as the Young Democratic Clubs of Wisconsin. Included are constitutions; executive committee minutes; correspondence of members of the executive board; position statements and other records pertaining to state conventions; fragmentary financial records; files on various local and district YDCW units and on other groups such as the Wisconsin Youth Council; newsletters, manuals and miscellaneous publications; membership directories; and material pertaining to special projects and activities. Files pertaining to campaign activities are scattered, although there are some segregated materials of note pertaining to Bronson La Follette.

Abstract: Records of a La Crosse, Wisconsin, men's organization, mainly 1883-1974. The organization is also known locally by the name "Family Y," and its membership is open to men and women. The original purpose of the association was to "promote the mental, moral, social, and physical good of the young men" of La Crosse and its vicinity. Religious education also played a large role. Today's programming is geared toward family activities and physical exercise. Materials include board minutes, 1883-1954; photographs, 1926-1980; and scrapbooks, 1942-1974. Newsletters and photographs are also included from two YMCA clubs: the Central High School "Hi-Ys", 1959-1966; and the Men's Y-Club, 1938-1954.

Abstract: Copies of circular letters, minutes, convention papers, publications, reports, resolutions, and other papers of a semi-autonomous the Young People's Socialist League, the youth branch of the Socialist Party of America. The collection primarily documents the more practical aspects of party life and activities, such as meetings, membership, fund raising, committee work, and conventions. The file of publications is comprised of issues of the YPSL newspaper, Challenge (1943-1946), Avanti (a bulletin), the Young Socialist Handbook, and the High School Socialist, as well as individual publications and mimeographed material. Also included is a 1953 report describing YPSL disorganization and lack of membership, a 1940 resolution on socialism and the war, and statements on Cuba, 1961.

Abstract: Records of the national office of the Young Socialist Alliance, a revolutionary Marxist youth group closely allied to the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party. The YSA was formed in 1960 and it dissolved into the SWP in 1992. The collection documents YSA's role in the protest against the Vietnam War, in various struggles for minority rights, and in numerous other political and social conflicts dating from the 1960s through the 1980s. On microfilm are National Executive Committee minutes, mailings, financial reports, mimeographed materials produced by the national office for intra-party communication, historical files, and detailed narrative reports on local activities during the 1970s. Subject files relate to involvement with the international student movement during the 1980s, and especially with the movement in South Africa; the domestic student movement of the 1970s; trials of several expelled dissidents; conferences and defense cases; and correspondence about diverse organizations such as Prisoners United and the Symbionese Liberation Army. Predating the YSA are bulletins and minutes of the National Action Committee of the Young Socialist League and minutes of the editorial board and mailings of the Young Socialist. Also included is a print of To Make a Revolution, a film by David Weiss concerning the YSA during the early 1970s. A few items, 1965-1971, are available in paper form.

Abstract: Records of the Madison affiliate of the Young Socialist Alliance, formed nationally in 1957 under the influence of the Socialist Workers Party, and active locally from about 1965. Included in the collection are correspondence, administrative records, financial papers, notes, subject files, research materials, and newsclippings illustrating the anti-Vietnam war and other activities of the YSA, and its ties to other activist and radical groups. The papers have been arranged in ten series: organizational records, financial records, convention and election campaign papers, publicity and publications, YSA activity reports, U.W. campus activities, records of cooperation with other groups, general papers and subject file, and records of other Wisconsin and out-of-state locals. Most of the papers date from the mid-1960's to the early 1970's, and partially reflect the original arrangement of the donor, Patrick M. Quinn.

Abstract: Records of the Young Women's Christian Association in Green Bay-De Pere (YWCA), 1919-2007, consisting of founding documents, annual meeting minutes, financial reports, committee and programming materials, and publications, scrapbooks and photographs. The campaign to raise money for the construction of a new building for the organization, which opened in 1962, is well-documented, as are the youth programs, particularly the summer camps White Gables and Wethanketha. Correspondence is sparse. A film of the groundbreaking for the new building and a tape recording of children's performance in the 1990s are also included.

Abstract: Records of a women's organization in La Crosse, Wisconsin, affiliated in 1907 with its parent national organization. Founded locally in 1903, the group seeks to "advance the physical, social, intellectual, moral and spiritual interests" of young women. The modern, national statement of purpose includes the goal of "peace and justice, freedom and dignity for all people." The records include historical materials, board minutes and committee materials (1907-1981), executive files (1907-1938; 1965-1989), incomplete financial materials (1933-1987), and buildings and grounds materials (1961-1987). Also included are materials of several Y.W.C.A. clubs such as Newcomers (1963-1968), Round Table (1933-1987) and Y-Teens (1959-1970).

On microfilm are the minutes of the Board of Managers (1892-1898); annual meetings (1895-1903); Board of Trustees (1899-1908, 1921-1924, 1938-1950); and Board of Directors (1898-1950).
