Abstract: Records, mainly 1984-1987, of Nicaragua Exchange, an organization that coordinated brigades of American volunteer harvest workers in Nicaragua and that worked to promote friendship between Nicaragua and the United States. Included are correspondence with potential and former brigade volunteers, Nicaragua Network, and other organizations concerned with the Nicaraguan policy issue; extensive volunteer applications and evaluations; clippings; administrative records; and promotional materials (including film and sound recordings) produced by Nicaragua Exchange and other organizations. The videotapes include a speech by Daniel Ortega to volunteer workers.

Abstract: Founded as the National Network in Solidarity with the Nicaraguan People in 1979, Nicaragua Network (NN) is an umbrella organization made up of local and national committees, task forces, and groups throughout the United States. Its purpose is to increase understanding between the peoples of the United States and Nicaragua by providing financial and material aid for Nicaragua; educational speaking tours throughout the U.S.; and special work brigades. In addition to documenting these programs, the collection provides information about activist groups in the U.S. at both the grassroots and national level, and about the political and economic conditions of the average Nicaraguan during the 1980s. Included is correspondence; clippings, both for reference and about Nicaragua Network; meeting minutes, mainly of the Coordinating Committee (CC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC); brigade applications and evaluations; administrative office files; publicity material, both for Nicaragua Network and member/related organizations; procedural manuals and memoranda, especially on publicity and fundraising; reports; typed and handwritten reports/notes on regular telephone calls between the U.S. and Managua offices; and press releases.

Abstract: Photocopied papers of Nicholas Fischer, a former University of Wisconsin student who worked as an organizer for the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in Sharkey County, Mississippi, in 1965. Included is personal correspondence, party papers, flyers, and leaflets. Earlier correspondence concerns fund-raising efforts that Fischer conducted among University of Wisconsin students to support Mississippi civil rights workers.

Abstract: Papers of Floy and Lulu Nichols, sisters who were born and raised in Berlin, Wisconsin, and later moved to Chicago where Floy worked at the University of Chicago transcribing theses and other publications. The papers consist of correspondence between the sisters and with other family and friends, scrapbooks, financial records, recipes, and school notebooks. Also included are photographs depicting family members, family events, and scenes of Wisconsin.

Abstract: Papers documenting the film production work of Nietzchka Keene, an independent filmmaker and teacher of film and video production at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Films documented include Hinterland (1983), The Juniper Tree (1990), Aves (1994), Heroine of Hell (1996), and the uncompleted Barefoot to Jerusalem. Papers include administrative records, production materials, personal artifacts, photographs, and original artwork. The films and videorecordings from Keene's six films, include projection prints, production footage, and soundtracks.

Abstract: Papers, 1875-1931, of Nils Pederson Haugen, a Republican congressman from Wisconsin's Tenth District, 1887-1895, and state tax commissioner, 1901-1921. Papers from the years of Haugen's congressional service consist of correspondence with constituents, principally in regard to patronage and pension claims, but also touch upon other matters, including Scandinavian politics and newspapers, local affairs in Pierce County and Superior, and state campaigns, including his own for the gubernatorial nomination in 1894 and that of Robert M. La Follette in 1896. Papers from the years of Haugen's work as tax commissioner touch upon the income tax law of 1911, and include correspondence from 1919-1920 with officials of the National Tax Association, of which Haugen was then president. Papers also include material on Montana state politics from 1921 to 1923, when Haugen served as advisor to the board of equalization of Montana on revision of the state tax laws.
