Abstract: Files of Mayors Edwin F. Weis (1944-1957) and Victor P. Capelle (1957-1958) including correspondence, minutes and proceedings of various city boards, reports, and other materials, some dating back to 1925.. Much material deals with routine city functions such as police and fire protection, recreation, and planning. Other material deals with post-World War II housing problems, communicable diseases, and civil defense. As a developing industrial city with a limited underground water supply the city also had a serious pollution problem. After 1958, Fond du Lac adopted a city manager form of government.

Abstract: Record of taxes levied and collected on real estate and personal property. The rolls include a description of the property, its assessed valuation, and amount of taxes paid. Holdings are incomplete. They include all records for the years 1850-1900, except for a few missing volumes, and the records for every fifth year thereafter beginning with 1905. No records are present for 1960, 1965, or 1985.

Abstract: Records of the Alliance, a group of organizations concerned with conservation and wildlife management; including minutes and materials on goose hunting at Horicon Marsh, water pollution, a tour by Stewart Udall and a banquet for Owen Gromme, and the Sixth District Advisory Committee to the National Rivers and Harbors Congress, chaired by John L. Franson, a leader of the Alliance. Photographs are of the Supple Marsh wildlife preserve, ca. 1963, originally a refuse dump on Lake Winnebago and the Fond du Lac River. Included are images of the dump, the surrounding shoreline, migratory ducks and geese, observation buildings, and an on-site inspection by Senator Gaylord Nelson. Also included is a photographic reproduction of the Supple Marsh proposal.

Abstract: Photograph album belonging to David Clement Sargent, owner of the Palmer House Hotel in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Included in the album are images of the hotel, buildings in Fond du Lac, and family activities including adults and children playing, swimming, and fishing. Also included is an image of children with carved Halloween pumpkins and a boy holding a bow and arrow. Additional images include a view of Kamp Kill-Kare at Lake Beach, Lake Winnebago, and Lakeside Park. The majority of the images in the album are captioned.

Abstract: Records of the first cooperatively owned bus company in the United States, which provided public transportation in Fond du Lac, Wis. and surrounding areas from 1968 to 1973. The non-profit business restored bus service to the area following the demise of the privately-owned Fond du Lac Bus Company, and was a pioneering attempt to solve through a cooperative model the financial difficulties typical of urban transportation systems. Included are articles of incorporation and bylaws, minutes of annual and board of directors' meetings, correspondence, annual and monthly reports to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, information about buses and bus schedules, financial records, promotional materials, shareholder records, materials concerning its 1973 sale to the City of Fond du Lac, and records of final dissolution and shareholder monetary distributions.

Abstract: Records, mainly 1917-1982, of Foote, Cone & Belding (FCB), an international advertising agency headquartered in Chicago that was founded in 1873. The firm operated from 1882 to 1942 as Lord & Thomas, from 1942 to 1994 as Foote, Cone & Belding, and as True North Communications from 1994 to 2001, when the Foote, Cone & Belding name was restored. The collection consists almost entirely of microfilmed copies of the print advertising produced for clients between 1917 and 1982. Also included are a small number of television commercials considered the best produced by the firm from 1950 to 1979, books produced by Lord & Thomas on the early theory and practice of advertising, and miscellaneous internal publications, including an internal video magazine, 1994-1996. There are no general administrative records and no papers about the creative development of any advertising campaigns.

Abstract: Correspondence, contracts, and other records (primarily 1940-1952) on the sale of film distribution rights to foreign clients, documenting distribution contracts from initial contact through subsequent contract enforcement. Foreign distribution was done in two basic ways: by United Artists (UA) or a subsidiary selling rights directly to exhibitors on an individual basis, or by the sale of licenses to other distribution organizations at a flat rate, with subsequent distribution performed by the licensee. Because UA's independent producers had input into the sale price and terms of the distribution agreements, full information on the foreign distribution negotiations were referred either to the home office in New York or to the major UA subsidiary in London for final approval; thus, the series contains extensive details on individual foreign distribution transactions. Also included are some non-distribution materials relating to foreign countries, such as Bulgaria, French North Africa, and Italy.

Abstract: Details of credits and debits to accounts at United Artists' foreign offices. These offices, modeled on the corporation's system of domestic exchanges, did business within a designated geographical area. Thus, the Argentina office conducted business in Uruguay and Paraguay as well as in Argentina. The individual accounts encompass the entire range of activities of UA's foreign business, from capital stock to petty cash and from profit on currency exchange to producers' shares of played-and-earned income.

Abstract: Records of the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), a national, non-partisan adult educational organization dedicated to promoting interest in international relations and an understanding of foreign affairs; including correspondence, reports, memoranda, financial records, minutes, speeches, news releases, newsletters, brochures, photographs, moving images, audio recordings, and printed materials. Formed in 1918 as the League of Free Nations and reorganized in 1923, the FPA supplies publications, speakers, and counsel for community-based discussion programs and other events, and also sponsors events for a national audience. The records document the activities, administration, public relations, education efforts, community relations, and finances of the organization, as well as foreign policy and world affairs in all facets throughout the 20th century. Topics include human rights, war, trade, government, defense, world hunger, education, anti-communist activities, and foreign relations.

They discuss their own backgrounds and involvement in the party, Progressive leaders, other third party movements, Governor Philip La Follette, the National Progressives of America, and related topics.

Abstract: The Foundation for Rural Housing, Inc. (named the Wisconsin Rural Housing Cooperative from 1969-1983) assists low-income families of rural Wisconsin in acquiring and maintaining adequate, safe, and sanitary housing. The bulk of the collection documents programs and projects including the Community Housing Alternatives Program (CHAP), the Housing Initiative Program (HIP), the National Demonstration Water Project (NDWP), the Wisconsin Fund (Private Sewage System Grant), and the Volunteer Senior Home Repair Program. Administrative files documenting Board of Directors meetings and grant reports as well as photographs documenting the early years of the home building and repair program are also present.

Abstract: The collection contains files on over 5,000 Wisconsin businesses, each of which employed more than 100 employees. The information was solicited, collated and organized between 1987 and 2006, but information dates from 1880 to 2006. The contents in each file varies, but most include survey forms, newspaper clippings, and information reproduced from other published sources. The collection also includes a database that can be searched on 32 different fields and includes references to the repositories throughout the state where company records can be found. The database includes the company name, location (city and county), incorporation date, names of founders, Standard Industrial Classification codes (as determined by the initial study coordinators), and any other names or the names of parent/subsidiary companies associated with the company.

Abstract: Records of a church founded as a Norwegian Evangelical congregation in 1878 which at various dates shared a circuit with churches in the Town of Plymouth, Town of Greenwood, Mauston, and Hustler. Included are sacramental record books, and a photograph album and book of historical essays on the church Ladies Aid. Early records are in Norwegian. Photographs include images of the churches and parsonages, 1912-1937.

Abstract: Papers of McCormick, a third-generation executive of the International Harvester Company; consisting mainly of materials relating to the company and to McCormick's personal business interests, plus a few personal papers. Included are correspondence, committee reports, Executive Council minutes, financial statements, magazine and newspaper clippings, pamphlets and other printed materials, speeches, and other papers. The majority of the papers cover the years 1941-1958. Included among the International Harvester materials is information on the 1946 reorganization of the company, on their 1947 lowering of prices to help balance the national economy, on McCormick's business philosophy and influences upon its development, and on many other topics. Other files concern McCormick's involvement in various national governmental economic agencies and committees. Miscellaneous personal papers contain a Rockefeller family genealogy, and earlier family correspondence.

Abstract: A collection of six videocassettes containing footage taken in Fox Point, Wisconsin. Produced by Carol and Daniel Chew for the Fox Point Foundation, the tapes contain footage of events that took place in Fox Point in 1989 and 1990, as well as interviews with Fox Point residents. The tapes also include footage of various homes, businesses, schools, and houses of worship in Fox Point, as well as recordings of older photographs relating to Fox Point and its residents. An accompanying guide lists the contents of each tape.

Abstract: Records from a project that began in Fall of 1978 as an industrial site survey of Brown and Outagamie Counties that undertook to identify, locate, and describe sites of industrial activity that had been constructed prior to 1945. Included in the survey were only those activities that involved processing materials. Intentionally excluded from the survey were warehouses, retailing and wholesaling establishments, service activities (banks, insurance companies, etc.), and transportation (including railroad station and service buildings).Records pertain to cooperative agreements, correspondence, background information, instructional materials, progress reports, research notes, and building architecture and historical survey notes using Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) inventory forms. Document types include photographs, publications, and maps. One folder contains preliminary background information on Winnebago County, a county that was originally slated for this project, but it appears that county was not surveyed during this phase.

Abstract: Records compiled by William Nelson and Jack Jaynes, employees of Green Bay Packaging Corporation (Wisconsin) and industrial members of the Fox Valley Water Quality Planning Agency’s Industry Rivers Study Committee (IRSC). The Agency, funded by the federal government and five counties along the Fox River, was established in response to the 1972 Water Pollution Control Act. Industrial members of the Agency included most of the major paper companies in Wisconsin. The IRSC collected a variety of data on the river and developed models concerning wasteload allocation and pollution control. Included are minutes of committee meetings, notes taken at meetings, correspondence, memos, newsletters, reports, technical data, presentations to the Natural Resources Board, clippings, and proposals.
