Abstract: Papers documenting the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association (formerly the Wisconsin Rural Writers' Association) and the Badger Folklore Society, consisting of stories, poems, notes, photographs, and correspondence concerning Wisconsin folklore and legends, kept by Fidelia Van Antwerp, first president of the association. A large group of letters concerns plans for a book on Wisconsin folklore pertaining to trees by the Wisconsin Idea Theatre. A Wisconsin place-names collection, compiled by Mrs. Helen C. Smith, relates the origins of the names and brief histories of present towns and villages in the state. Photographs include images of various unidentified landscapes and activities perhaps assembled circa 1950 for use in the publication Songs of the Winter Wilderness.

Abstract: Records of the Fifth Avenue Vietnam Peace Parade Committee, a broad-based coalition which represented the majority of the Vietnam War opposition in New York City. Included are steering committee minutes, correspondence, press releases, leaflets, and logistical material on various national and local demonstrations that the committee organized and supported. Many of the files are quite fragmentary, with the most complete documentation relating to committee activities in 1966 and 1967. Prominent correspondents include Kipp Dawson, Frank Emspak, Fred Halstead, Linda Morse, and Ron Wolin. There is also a copy of remarks by Norman Mailer at an August 6, 1966, demonstration.

Abstract: Contract registers containing a record of the towns, theaters, dates, and prices (with occasional played and earned figures) for films exhibited between 1919 and 1941. The contracts generally are recorded by exchange and thus enable easy comparison of films in different sections of the country. Volumes from 1919-1931 are handwritten originals, and include references to theaters closing or changing hands, cancelled showings or reduced rates, and occasional recordings of censored films. Volumes from 1937-1941 are copies of the originals.

Abstract: Records of a fine arts quartet documenting its concerts and management, and also containing personal papers of its leader, Leonard Sorkin. The general records of the quartet include reviews of FAQ concerts and feature stories on the FAQ and its members; and programs of FAQ concerts and promotional materials which thoroughly document the locales of concerts and choices of music. The FAQ's management and financial records (1945-1989) document the financial and management history of the quartet, including activities with recording companies, as well as Leonard Sorkin's role as leader of the group. Also contains the personal papers of Leonard Sorkin, including two scrapbooks (1930-1944) and soloist programs (1930-1984) concerning his life before he formed the quartet and also recount some of the events that led to the founding of the group. They also document the contacts he made with other musicians before and during World War II.

Abstract: The records include a financial log book of what appears to be a youth group (1898-1916) of the Norwegian language Baptist church of Halfway Creek, once located east of Holmen in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Also included are two volumes of official records which include lists of members and a chronological journal or log of significant church events, 1869-1903. It is believed that the Halfway Creek congregation dissolved and some members merged with the First Baptist Church in the city of La Crosse. Records of the First Baptist Church are sparse and include a 125th anniversary booklet (1852-1977), and two lists of members: 1852-1901, and members as of Jan. 1912. All Halfway Creek records were written in the Norwegian language, while those of First Baptist were written in the English language. There are no sacramental records of either congregation on this microfilm.

Abstract: Records of a Baptist congregation organized in Madison, Wisconsin in 1847. Included are minutes (1847-1911) and correspondence (1833-1864) of Lyman C. Draper and other church clerks; records of several congregational organizations and a subject file that highlights several events in the church's history. The congregation's centennial is documented by correspondence, a printed history, a scrapbook, and a historical slide lecture. The slides document the church's buildings and its ministers as well as its service under Charles Galpin to University of Wisconsin students. An additional scrapbook documenting the year 1943-1944 contains photographs representing the congregation's focus on racial understanding. Also included are brief records of the Sun Prairie Baptist Church, 1900-1907, whose members became part of the Madison congregation.

Abstract: Records of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, also called First Lutheran Church, 1859-1947, of La Crosse, Wisconsin. This congregation is affiliated with the Wisconsin Synod. Previous names were German Evangelical Lutheran Church and German Lutheran Church. This is the oldest formally organized Lutheran congregation in the city organized in 1859. The church records include baptisms, confirmations, marriages, burials, 1859-1947; and communions, 1859-1870; 1915-1968. The older records were written in the German script and language.

Included are articles of incorporation, meeting minutes, correspondence, newsletters, financial records, texts of radio sermons, records of the Property Committee including plans for the Wright-designed meeting house, membership lists, and programs of Sunday services. Records of the Meeting House Nursery School, of the Social Action Committee, and several other related groups are present as are records on the Wisconsin Conference of Unitarian (and Independent) Societies (1867-1903), the Unitarian Ministers' Association (1960-1961), and other outside groups.

Abstract: This collection contains the records of the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, the first Unitarian-Universalist church in southeastern Wisconsin. The majority of the records date from the 1930s through the present. Earlier items include newspaper clippings from the 1840s, as well as Board of Trustees minutes from the second half of the nineteenth century. Some of the more interesting items in the collection are the original Bonds of Union for the Society, a long run of board minutes, a large number of transcribed sermons, and a more than forty-year run of the church newsletter.

Abstract: Collection consists of raw video footage (black and white with sound) for a production entitled Fish Fry, an accompanying sound recording of an interview with Ruth and Harvey Williams and other soundtrack material, and miscellaneous notes, shot lists and other production material. The videotapes contain interviews with African American fishermen in Madison (Wisconsin) while fishing and include images of Madison and surrounding areas.

Abstract: Records, mainly 1941-1969, of the Fisher-Fallgatter Milling Co. of Waupaca, Wisconsin, a water-powered flour mill founded in 1884 as the Crescent Roller Mills. Shortly after the turn of the century the mill began concentrating on rye and selling its product on a national market. The business closed in 1969 due to changes in transportation, but was briefly reopened in 1979 as a private museum. The collection documents day-to-day operations of the firm's last 25 years including purchase of grain from local producers; flour sales to eastern bakers and brokers; maintenance and repair of the dam and milling equipment; purchase of supplies and pest management services; financial and production record keeping; and developing new markets such as flour sales to E. I. Dupont & Company for use in dynamite manufacturing. The records consist of correspondence, routine financial and operational records, a history by Polly Athan and a small amount of historical background, and oral history interviews with former owner Don Fallgatter and two employees. Although few of the financial and operational records are complete they provide representative documentation.

Abstract: Business and personal papers of four generations of the Fisk Family of Green Bay and Fort Howard, Wisconsin, primarily documenting the operations of the land and lumber company, W.D. Fisk and Co., during the 1870s and 1880s. Business records consist of letterbooks, cashbooks, journals, ledgers, and two volumes listing shipments to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and other customers. The personal papers document only a few members of the family, primarily the line that descended from Joel S. Fisk to his son William Justin Fisk and then to his son Wilbur Driggs Fisk and his children Hiram Fisk and Mary Newton Fisk. Included is fragmentary correspondence; legal account books of Joel Fisk (1838-1842); letters to Eva Cornell Fisk from her maternal cousin, William Haight, a Justice Department inspector; snapshots and letters written by Hiram Fisk during a trip to China and Japan in 1915; a scrapbook, honeymoon letters, and DAR application of Mary Fisk Newton; and miscellaneous letters to and from Martha Driggs Ryan, aunt of Wilbur D. Fisk. Also included are biographical clippings and portraits of a few members of the Fisk and Driggs families. The original photographic prints are available at the Green Bay Area Research Center; copies are in Madison.
Mullan, Fitzhugh, 1942- Title: Fitzhugh Mullan Papers, 1964-1980

Abstract: Papers of Fitzhugh Mullan, a pediatrician and health activist who worked with the Student Health Organization (SHO) in Chicago and the Lincoln Hospital Collective in New York, and served as director of the National Health Service Corps, Bureau of Community Health Services. In 1976 Mullan published a book on his experiences in New York called White Coat, Clenched Fist. The collection includes SHO communications, proposals for a SHO National Service Center, minutes of Collective and departmental meetings at Lincoln Hospital, and information about the 1971 billing action. There are also many articles written by Mullan and a corrected typescript of his book, as well as many SHO publications.
