Abstract: Papers of a pioneer Wisconsin conservationist who was a member of the state Conservation Commission (1939-1951; chairman, 1941-1944) and who served as an officer of the Izaak Walton League. The papers consist largely of material collected during service on the Conservation Commission. They include administrative files; budgets and financial statements; correspondence and memoranda to and from Frank N. Graass, Walter Scott, Ernest Swift, and other conservation leaders; and subject files. The latter document his involvement in the general management of the commission and in the passage of legislation affecting conservation issues such as Great Lakes commercial fishing, fish management, wildlife management, game farms, and public hunting and fishing grounds. Also included are speeches and addresses, miscellaneous personal material, and an oral history available in both recorded and transcribed form. Fragmentary correspondence, information bulletins, and conference material document his involvement with the Izaak Walton League, the Citizens Natural Resources Association of Wisconsin, and other conservation organizations.

Abstract: Papers of a vice-chairman of the New Haven, Connecticut, chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality, including routine administrative mail, arrangements for cultural events sponsored by the chapter, minutes, policy statements, and clippings. Much of the collection relates to the chapter's campaign to improve housing for urban blacks.

Abstract: Records of Abraxas Press, a small press located in Madison, Wisconsin, dating from 1966 to 1992. The majority of the collection consists of materials pertaining to ABRAXAS, a little magazine published by Abraxas press, which featured work by American poets, such as Charles Bukowski. Records include the original manuscripts of poems and other writings sent to the magazine for review, mockups for forthcoming issues, and correspondence between editors and contributors, as well as correspondence between the editors, Warren Woessner and Ingrid Swanberg. Also included is information about grants for which the press applied and other writings, including miscellaneous poems and a manuscript for Essays and Dissolutions by Darrel Gray, published by Abraxas Press in 1977.
