Abstract: Records of the Teachers Committee for Peace in Vietnam, an organization of teachers at all levels opposed to the war in Vietnam who sought to educate their students about the issues and to influence public policy. The group was organized by two teachers during the summer of 1965 in New York City. Also documented is the Committee’s effort to get the American Federation of Teachers (AFL-CIO) to voice opposition to the war, despite the AFL-CIO’s support of the Johnson administration. In addition to administrative files, the collection includes correspondence with and material on other peace groups, informational mailings (newsletters and leaflets), curricular materials, statements, reports, and miscellanous publications.

Abstract: Records of the Teaching Assistants Association (TAA), a labor union representing graduate teaching and research assistants on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. In 1969 the union, which is Local 3220 of the American Federation of Teachers, became the first such union to win exclusive bargaining rights. The collection documents the union's organizing and bargaining activities, lobbying efforts, strikes, membership, and public relations through correspondence, administrative and financial materials, contracts and grievance files, publicity materials, and audiovisual materials.

Abstract: Papers of Jerry Tecklin, a civil rights worker in Mississippi for the Freedom Summer of 1964. The collection includes scattered correspondence, leaflets and flyers, freedom newsletters, and research material and reports. Tecklin worked in Sunflower and Bolivar Counties, and accumulated printed material; statistics, especially agricultural figures; political data; and hand-written notes about all aspects of life in the two counties. Using his research material, he wrote periodic reports which were submitted to the Atlanta office of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. These reports and research material present detailed information about the Freedom Summer in Bolivar and Sunflower Counties.

Abstract: Records of TecNICA, a now defunct non-profit, non-governmental organization that provided volunteer technical assistance and material aid to the people of Nicaragua and, beginning in 1988, to Southern Africa. TecNICA was organized in 1983, and around 1986 became a project of the Institute for Technology and Development. TecNICA also played a role in public education, influencing public opinion about the countries they served. Miscellaneous files include information about Benjamin Lindner, U.S. citizen and peace worker killed by the Nicaraguan contras.

Abstract: Papers and photographs collected and created by Jerald Teesdale, amateur photographer, antique automobile enthusiast, gun collector, and life-long resident of Shorewood Hills, Madison, Wisconsin. The papers include: family account books; materials related to his father, Laurence [Lawrence?] Victor Teesdale, an engineer at the United States Forest Products Laboratory; material collected by Jerald Teesdale about Woodcraft Camp (Waushara County, Wisconsin) where he spent summers as a youth; information about his career in the United States Navy (1945-1951); and a diary of his trip to the 1933 World's Fair. The majority of the photographs document the built environment around southern Wisconsin including Madison and Dane County. Additional photographs document summers spent at Woodcraft Camp and Camp Indianola (Dane County, Wisconsin); his service in the United States Navy (1945-1951); and his father's work.

Abstract: Records of the Television Bureau of Advertising (TvB), founded in 1954 by several members of the National Association of Broadcasters as an “independent, autonomous, all-industry advertising bureau.” The collection reflects the bureau's central mission to promote television for advertising purposes, and includes videotapes of approximately 11,000 commercials, primarily produced in the United States, but also in other countries.

Abstract: Papers of Horace A. Tenney, primarily correspondence touching upon many aspects of his career as editor, member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, assistant state geologist, and political leader in Wisconsin. Among the topics discussed are the development of the state constitution in 1847, the Barstow-Bashford controversy, the selection of saline lands for the University in the 1850s, the formation of the Republican Party, the Liberal Republican and Greenback movements in the 1870s; and local politics, particularly in Madison and Milwaukee.

Abstract: Primarily business papers of an actor-businessman who founded and operated several music circuses, combining aspects of a traditional circus and the legitimate theater. Included for the Lambertville (New Jersey) Music Circus are general correspondence, and such business records as casting correspondence and audition lists; personnel files; contracts; financial statements; production and operating reports; budgets; box office statements; tax returns; insurance records; advertising and publicity materials; and correspondence and records regarding equipment and physical plant improvements. There are only fragmentary production files concerning plays and musicals produced from 1949, when the Lambertville Music Circus was established, through 1961. Several of Terrell's other music circuses in New Jersey, Florida, California, and Texas are represented by small quantities of records, as are the Motor Music Circus and Musical Arena Theatres' Association.

Abstract: Papers (bulk 1963-1972) collected by Peggy Terry while working as a civil rights activist and as editor of The Firing Line, a community newspaper published by Jobs or Income Now (JOIN) Community Union in Uptown Chicago. Subjects documented include Terry's participation in sit-ins organized by the Chicago chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), her involvement in planning the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's (SCLC) Poor People's Campaign in Washington, D.C. in 1968 as a member of the event's steering committee, and her work for JOIN Community Union in assisting poor white southerners who had migrated to Chicago from Appalachia. Also documented is her opposition to the Vietnam War and her Vice Presidential campaign as Eldridge Cleaver's running-mate on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket in the 1968 Presidential election.

Abstract: Papers of Tesmer, a Wisconsin state legislator from the 19th Assembly district, including correspondence with her constituents and a legislative subject file with letters from interested citizens and organizations of the state. The constituent correspondence reflects views on issues such as drunken driver arrests, broadened powers for the state patrol, campaign financing, state lottery, and public employees' right to strike. The subject file covers a wide span of legislative interests but most of the letters relate to budget bills or abortion legislation. There is almost no correspondence for 1976.

Abstract: Papers of a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) professor who served as a faculty member, department head, and acting dean of UWM's School of Social Welfare and its predecessor institutions. Most of the collection dates from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s. The collection is notable for filling gaps in the official records of the school, especially for the early 1960s. The majority of the collection consists of miscellaneous records created or compiled by Teter, filed chronologically under the name of the school and its predecessors. The records document the early development of the social work education program, notably the evolution of the curriculum and the establishment of an independent School of Social Welfare. Also contains files on the development of a Ph.D. degree, and minutes and background materials of various curriculum committees and committees concerning the organization and structure of the school. The collection does not contain any papers on Teter's professional activities, research, or teaching.
