	Subseries: 5D. Maps & Surveys, 1923-1968 Scope and Content Note: This subseries contains the files of the Department of Maps & Surveys. Originally called the Department of Mathematical Geography, this department was created in order to perform research into the systematic and theoretical analysis of the methods used in geography, as well as deal with specialized questions. The department also contributed to the advancement of mapping techniques. It was created in order to continue the work of the School of Geographical Surveying and Field Astronomy, which had closed in 1931. The department was run by Osborn Maitland Miller. This subseries is mainly comprised of his papers, which include technical information and formulae, correspondence, articles, notes, experiments, patent materials, and work done for the Alexander Forbes book Northernmost Labrador, among other projects.
