In 1978, the Parkside Archives received a grant of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to conduct a survey of non-current records of businesses in Racine and Kenosha. This survey was conducted in two phases. The first phase involved businesses with more than 100 employees such as J.I. Case, S.C. Johnson, and American Motors Corporation. The second phase surveyed business with 50-100 employees, financial institutions and companies no longer in business.

Ephemera vary by company and may include newspaper clippings, annual reports to stockholders, company publications, and product catalogs. Notable items include photos from Specialty Brass Company taken in 1912. Collection includes newspaper clippings regard Joseph Noll, a Kenosha businessman who was appointed Secretary of the Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations.

The files are organized to correspond to the events of the survey. This includes Background Information; such as pamphlets and other surveys, Preparation for the Survey, the Survey Process, and Survey Results. Correspondence is next, followed by Ephemera, which includes pamphlets, annual reports, and newspaper clippings.
