According to their mission statement, the Port of Milwaukee enhances “the overall
economic and social environment of the City and region by stimulating trade,
business, and employment.” The day to day operations of the Port of Milwaukee are
managed by the Harbor Commission. It is a policy making body consisting of seven
commissioners appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council. In
addition to being involved in the development and improvement of the harbor, the
commission also leases harbor land and facilities to commercial enterprises.
