: This was the first important symposium sponsored by Parkside and was partially intended to give the new campus more visibility in the scientific community. Professors Surinder Datta and Norbert Isenberg (Chemistry) were co-chairmen of the organizing committee for the symposium. A second symposium was planned for 1972 but, lacking internal support, never materialized.
