M2008-043
Part 6 (M2008-043): Additions, 1935-1968, 1998-2004
Physical Description: 35.8 cubic feet (35 records cartons and 3 archives boxes), 22 photographs, 23 compact discs (1 box), and 476 cassette tapes (25 boxes)
Access Restrictions: The audio recordings in M2008-043 (Box 39-64) are listening copies and are available ONLY to on-site researchers.
Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1935-1968 and 1998-2004, consisting of the research materials for Judgment Days: Lyndon Johnson, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Laws that Changed America, which chronicles the Civil Rights legislation in the 1960s. Included are photocopies from White House administrative files; recently declassified FBI documents concerning King, other Civil Rights leaders, and major events from the Civil Rights struggle; transcripts and recordings of White House telephone conversations; transcripts and notes from interviews with politicians, Civil Rights leaders, and other players from the struggle; and book materials such as chapter drafts and proofs. The materials in this collection were largely drawn from the Lyndon B. Johnson Library, the John F. Kennedy Library, the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, and the National Archives. In addition to Kotz's own notes from interviews he conducted, transcripts for the oral histories largely come from the Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Howard University.
