Jeanne Arnold and Barbara Lindquist Papers, 1977-2009

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of an unpublished manuscript on CD entitled Whistling Girls and Crowing Hens by Jeanne Arnold and one printed copy thereof, tracing her life and the life of her family as early as the 1940s through diary notes and recollections. Arnold focuses on her relationship with her partner, Barbara Lindquist. The papers also include a chronology of the St. Luke’s Hospital Strike in 1977, which contains news clippings, commentary, and reports by the compiler. Several pamphlets listing the products of Mother Courage Press, Racine, are included. In 2013, Jeanne Arnold donated a memoir of the death and funeral of Barbara Lindquist, who died on June 1, 2013, as well as printed photos, clippings regarding their participation in the 2012 and 2013 Gay Rights Marches in Racine, a recipe for pumpkin soup, and literature related to a display of musical instruments dedicated to Lindquist, who built many instruments. She also donated a DVD of Lindquist playing her instruments at a Racine Unitarian Universalist event at the Olympia Brown Church.
