Part 29 (2007/029): Additions, 1981-1993
Physical Description: 18.0 cubic feet (18 records center cartons) and 10 photographs (1 folder)
Scope and Content Note: Correspondence of Superintendent of Public Instruction Herbert Grover, 1981-1993. Half of the material is a continuation of documentation received in previous accessions: general chronologically-arranged mail (primarily 1988-1993) and files about speeches, meetings and public appearances (1991-1993). Outlines and notes for speeches are often written on the folders. Of greater significance is the mail arranged by correspondent group, such as contacts with the media, individual school district administrators, the governor, state agencies, and Wisconsin legislators or by subject. This correpondence covers Grover's entire tenure in office except that the files on Wisconsin state legislators cover only 1991-1992. The subject file section includes folders on several school districts and teacher licensing cases, individuals such as Deputy Secretary Dean Bowles and Milwaukee educational consultant Dennis Redovich, and the University of Wisconsin. Files on two departmental programs, the innovative Science World summer camps and the Year of the Family and Year of the Child, indicate considerable involvement by the superintendent. The photographs document Grover at public events and two Science World groups.
