Additional Descriptive InformationAppendix: Information from Donor:There are some family members with more extensive correspondence or materials. They include: Charles Donohue (MEH grandfather). Charlie Donohue was born in Ireland and had a varied career in mining, farming, politics, and various businesses. Anna Maria Donohue Hagan (MEH mother). Anna was the oldest daughter of Charles and Mary Margaret McGoldrick Donohue. When her mother died, she assumed much of the responsibility for her younger siblings. She married John Hagan in 1906: Their only child was MEH. John M. Hagan (MEH father). John was born in Erin, Wisconsin and his family later moved to the nearby town of New Richmond. He studied to be a dentist and practiced for one year in Glendive, Montana. At the end of that year, he returned to New Richmond and married Anna Donohue. Although he continued to use the title, Doctor, he never practiced dentistry in New Richmond. He had various businesses and primarily worked in insurance and real estate. He was also involved in local (Democratic) politics. John Hagan always had a drinking problem. His nephew, James D. Barger, says that John was one of the funniest men he ever met. Thomas C. Barger (MEH first cousin, son of Matye (Mary Margaret) Donohue and Michael Thomas Barger). Tom was eight years older than MEH and she said she always felt like he was her brother. He worked as a geologist and mining engineer in the Arctic Circle region of Canada, was briefly a professor at University of Montana in mining engineering. In 1937, he married Kathleen Ray and left for Saudi Arabia. He remained in Arabia for 32 years and held various positions in the Arabian American Oil Company. His final position was that of President. G. T. McConville (Terry McConville) (MEH second cousin, grandson of Dr. Daniel J. Donohue). Terry carried on an extensive correspondence with MEH concerning the Donohue family and also the connection of the family to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the signer of the Declaration of Independence. This connection is through Mary Carroll the wife of Patrick McGoldrick and mother of Mary Margaret McGoldrick Donohue (wife of Charles Donohue). The exact relation is still unknown. Fr. Barry Hagan, CSC (MEH second cousin, part of the Glendive, Montana Hagan family). Fr. Hagan is an historian and currently, the Archivist at University of Portland (Oregon). He and MEH collaborated on the history of the Hagan family. Their correspondence should be closed for 25 years, at his request. Florence Simon (MEH second cousin through the Scott line - part of the Donohue clan) Provided information on the Scott family and their relation to the Donohue family. M. Susan Barger (MEH second cousin, granddaughter of Matye (pronounced "maytee") (Mary Margaret) Donohue and Michael Thomas Barger, daughter of James D. Barger, MD). Correspondence related to the Barger part of the family. |
