Records of the first Catholic church in the River Falls area consisting primarily of financial records and of cemetery burial permits.
Biography/HistoryThe first Catholic church in the River Falls area was established in Pleasant Valley, St. Croix Co., in 1870. In 1876 this was replaced by a church built within the City of River Falls, and St. Bridget's parish was organized at this time. The subsequent growth of the city and the parish led to the construction of new church buildings in 1893 and in 1984. During the early years of the parish, and again from about 1931 to 1948, the spelling "St. Brighid's" was used. Collection Scope and Content NoteThe bulk of the collection consists of records of the contributions made by parishioners during the period from 1894 to 1946. Also included are other financial records, and burial permits for St. Bridget's Cemetery for the period 1932-1950. Administrative/Restriction Information
