[From Andrew Lee]
                                     Eau Claire 8 March [1895]
Dear Brother!
You must indeed excuse me for not having answered your
letter before. I just came down from the woods last week.
On account of the warm weather the last week in March
many camps quit working for the winter and I with
several others got a month's work too little. [He
undoubtedly meant February based on the date of the letter,
and also because the season usually lasted through March.]
Well then, therefore no disagreeable memories. So you
ask then: Why don't you make a trip home?
Because I want to wait until I see if there won't be
better times.
Yes, you must not beleive that a working man can earn
much money here in America at the present time. Whether you
beleive me or not, what I earn is barely enough to live on.
If I am not wrong, the indications are that I will be
working at the sawmill this summer also.
Karl came down from the woods this week. He had broken
his one leg between the hip and the knee, so he will be unable
to work for several months.
I have nothing further to write about this time.
      A friendly greeting
                                                 Andrew Lee
