Lactations in which a cow aborts after carrying calf longer than
150 days are terminated at the abortion and treated as incomplete rec-
ords. When the abortion occurs before the calf has been carried 150
days, the record is continued until the cow is dry, and is treated as a
complete lactation.
Example: The record of a cow freshening at two years, 5 months
of age, and milked twice daily for 340 days to produce 350 pounds of
butterfat, would be corrected as follows: No correction for number
of milkings per day. To correct to a mature basis the factor is
1.22; 1.22 x 350 = 427. To correct to a 305 day milking period the
factor is .90; .90 x 427 = 384 pounds of fat on a mature, 305 day,
2x basis. The milk is corrected in the same manner.
