JUDICIAL CIRCUITS
     WISCONSIN
particularly heavy, a single circuit may be divided into several
branches with a judge presiding over each. There are currently
4 circuits with more than one branch: the 2nd circuit (Milwaukee
County) with 13 branches, the 9th circuit (Dane County) with
3 branches, the 14th circuit (Brown, Door and Kewaunee Counties)
with 2 branches, and the 22nd circuit (Waukesha County) with
2 branches.
  Circuit judges are elected on a nonpartisan basis for a 6-year
term at the April election. Salaries are fixed by statute and are
paid by the state. As in the case of other elective offices, the
salaries cannot be raised during the term of office. For terms
commencing June, 1957, the salary is $14,000 and for terms com-
