RESPONSE.
John Theiler, New Glarus, Wis.
It was a very fortunate idea that Monroe was chosen as
the Convention City to hold the annual meeting of the
Southern Wisconsin Cheesemakers' and Dairymen's Associa-
tion. Monroe is more entitled to this honor than any other
City in the United States. What Pittsburg is for the steel
industry, what Chicago is for the live stock market and
packing industry, what New Orleans is for the cotton
business, what Minneapolis is for the breadstuff production,
Monroe stands for the gr. at Wisconsin Cheese Industry.
The terms Cheese and Monroe are as identical as Beans and
Boston.
That so many of the early pioneers of 'his now great
industry settled here and operated their business from this
place in connection with Farmers willing to engage in dairy
business made Monroe the Metropolis of the great Dairy
Industry in the State of Wisconsin. But not only that
Monroe is the center of the Dairy Industry makes it an ideal
Convention City for the Cheesemakers' and Dairymen's or
any other except the Prohibitions Association. It is the
liberality and hospitality, the high hearted comlmin iense
of the citizens of this city that makes it a pleasuie for every
visitor of the Convention to spend a few days in Monroe
among collegial and business friends.
The splendid program put up by the Committee ought to
be a drawcard for every man interested in the welfare of the
