The Greatest Industry in Manitowoc County
  Manitowoc county's reputation   for raising
high grade cattle is well established as evidenced
by the large number of cattle buyers who come
from all states of the union to purchase young
stock.
  There are 3,887 farms witl' a total of 352,674
acres, the average size farm being 91 acres. The
total land value is $24,167,893 and the land plus
all farm buildings is valued at $42,016,528.
  The 63,200 milk cows of the county produce
a total of 2,708,400,000 pounds of milk annually
for which their owners receive $4,590,900. Using
1927 statistics, 74% of the milk was used in the
manufacture of cheese, 3% went to creameries,
14% went to condenseries, 5% to city markets
and 4% to other uses.
  Manitowoc county has on its farms approxi-
mately 25,700 hogs, valued at $316,000, 1,700
sheep, 11,700 horses valued at $1,380,000, 280,000
chickens which produce 1,953,000 dozens of eggs.
  The cheese manufactured in the numerous
small cheese factories is placed in specially con-
structed wooden boxes and shipped to the large
warehouses in the city where it is graded and par-
afined and then shipped to the markets of the
world.
  The average dairy herd consists of 16 milk cows
and 5 head of young stock. Manitowoc county
has a county agent to assist farmers in any prob-
lem that may confront them.

  Manitowoc has an assessed valuation of $32,-
628,346, 24 miles of paved streets, a 215 bed hos-
pital, eight public schools, a business college, a
public library and museum, a private and public
golf course, a gun club, a municipal airport, a
rural Normal school, two daily newspapers, a
broadcasting station, W. 0. M. T. the Mikadow
theatre station, the Capital theatre, the most
modern in the state outside of Milwaukee, six
railroads and two passenger and freight steam-
ship lines, two public bathing beaches, Masonic
temple, Elks Clubhouse, Eagles Clubhouse, 1.0.
0. F. building, K. of P., Moose, K. of C.,Rotary,
Lions, Kiwanis, two large bands, 16 fox ranches,
the best County Fair Grounds in the state, a
rabbit ranch, Assn. of Commerce and the finest
people you will ever meet.
