             INTRODUCTION
In presenting this work which embodies the 1925 edi-
tion of Wright's Appleton City Directory, the publishers
feel assured that the work is complete in all its parts.
Every effort has been made to obtain a correct enumeration
of the citizenry of the city and full statistics regarding its
industries and civic features. The work has been carefully
compiled and arranged for ready reference and will be
found fully up to the standard established by the publishers
in their previous editions. There is no one factor that con-
tributes so directly to the upbuilding and prosperity of a
city as a directory compiled by publishers of established
reputation and therefore to be depended upon, for it is a
continuous and effective advertisement of the city as a
whole and of every enterprise conducted within its con-
fines, and it is a work that is indispensable as a source of
information relating to social and business affairs.
Following this introduction is a notable review of the
city in its civic, commercial and industrial aspects. The
several essential departments of the Directory are set
forth in the order following:
THE MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTMENT, pages 5 to
30, contains a varied fund of information relating to asy-
lums, hospitals and homes, banks, cemeteries, churches,
colleges, convents, courts, incorporated companies, libra-
ries, military organizations, newspapers, schools, rail-
roads, secret and benevolent societies, trade and labor or-
ganizations and United States Officers.
THE BUYERS' GUIDE occupies pages 31 to 74. This
section of the Directory, printed on tinted paper, includes
hundreds of advertisements of the leading manufacturing,
business and professional interests of Appleton. They
have been carefully grouped by departments and are in-
dexed under classified headings and otherwise in various
parts of the Directory. A casual perusal of these advertise-
ments will picture many interesting phases of the city's
activities. They are not display advertisements, primarily,
however, but rather are reference advertising at its best.
In a bustling, manufacturing city like Appleton need for
this kind of information readily at hand is very great,
and the general appreciation of this need is evidenced by
the liberal patronage the City Directory enjoys in many
and varied lines of trade.
THE ALPHABETICAL LIST OF NAMES of, citizens,
business firms and corporations is included in pages 75 to
450.
THE STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE AND DIREC-
TORY OF HOUSEHOLDERS is embraced in pages 451 to
526.
THE CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY will be
found on pages 527 to 598. In this department the names
of all business men and concerns in Appleton are compiled
first by headings appropriate to the class of business or
industry pursued, then by names in alphabetical order.
This feature constitutes a special trade directory.
RURAL ROUTES. Pages 599 to 608, cover a list of
rural routes out of the Appleton postoffice.
