[Letter from C. L. Hunt to Miss James: Washington DC, November 19, 1912] PDF (155.5 KB)

November 19, 1912.
Dear iess James:
The moment I heard of the de-
feat in Wisconsin I planned to write to you
and tell you of my unbounded admiration for you
and of my gratitude to you for the work you
have done. My life, however, has been very com-
plicated lately owing to the sickness of a
friend and I have left undone many things which
I wished to do. Of course I was disappointed
about Wisconsin but I do feel that we have done
a great deal to smoke the enemy out of his hole.
When all is done I believe we shall find that
the liquor interests are our strongest enemies
and that out of the controversy will come a
saner attitude with reference to them. A let-
ter from Mrs. La Follette tells me that the wo-
men of Wisconsin are not cast down and that they
are already planning a new campaign. I wish I ,<
might be of more assistance. C, V
Yours affectionately,
