     Founded in March, 1897 by A. C. Chase, this wockly has since made only
one change in editorship. The present owner, Ward L. Swift, purchased tho
paper from its founder.

     Pea canning is the main industry in this community but the manufactur-
ing of pea vining and bean shipping machincrsy, as well as poultry appli-
ances is also of value. Miuch dairying is carried on and a $350,000 dry milk
plant has been established which ships its product to all parts of the world.
Many head of lambs are fed here each year.

     J. R. Decker established this weekly in 1868 and edited it till 1908.
At that time Robert C. Lcitsch bought the paper and served as editor until
1921 when the first name was changed to Leitsch and Roberts, the new riamber
being John B. Roberts who with Mr. Loitsch now publishes the paper.
