Manufacturers and Merchants
to Printers
As MANUFACTURERS-It is our policy to produce those materials and articles cf use to
printers which are logically a part of type founding. It is contrary to our policy to encroach upon
the lines already adequately occupied by the various manufacturers for whose products our mer-
chandising organization serves as d-stributor. New inventions and new ideas for the improve-
ment of materials and tools of the craft are always of interest to us, and we invite the opportunity
of examining new inventions and patentable ideas with a view to manufacture and sale on terms
protecting the rights of the inventor.
As MERCHANTS-Our policy is to maintain an efficient organization of branch houses and
salesmen, serving as a distribution outlet for the products of various manufacturers who find it
impracticable to burden themselves and the trade with the cost of a separate selling organization.
This is co-operative marketing, the economies thereby effected being of benefit alike to both
the producer and the consumer.

SUPERIOR BINDERY PRESS AND BACKER
The Superior Bindery Press and Backer is a combination machine which takes the place of two
separate machines otherwise needed in book binderies. This table style press is of convenient
height and very handy for specialty binding and small work, or large work in
small quantities up to capacity of the platen, accommodating a width of 18
inches and a stack 12 inches high or less. It is also useful as a tableting press.
The framework is rigidly constructed of substantial iron castings and is
strongly braced. Screws of both press and backer have accurate machine-cut
threads, and the large handwheels facilitate rapid operation. Both the platen of
press and the bed or table top are of heavy hardwood.
SPECIFICATIONS: Press Table or Bed, 18 inches wide, 32 inches deep;
hardwood top /s-inch thick on iron bed frame; height from floor to surface
of table 34 inches. Press Platen, 18'4 inches between side frames, 12 inches
deep; rising 12 inches clear; hardwood 1% inches thick attached to iron
screw plate. Backer Jaws, 15% inches long inside; opening 3-/8 inches.
