Heart attack,   p. 29

Heart Attack
At first a speck, high
in the sky, a speck diving on another speck.
Then through binoculars,
a peregrine,
wings folded, stooping two hundred miles
an hour
on a pigeon-
and the explosion
of feathers
as those terrible feet
reach out, grip and stop a heart
as easily as you might quench a candle flame
with thumb
and index finger.
Then the swoop and they're gone
and after-
white feathers spiraling down
in an empty sky.
