SCOTCH BROTH. 
1 cup Scotch barley. 
1 tablespoon oil. 
2 medium-sized potatoes. 
2 medium-sized onins. 
1 medium-sized turnip. 
1 medium-sized carrot. 
1 cup cooked beans or 
1 cup cooked corn. 
1%  teaspoons salt. 
Vs teaspoon pepper. 
Soak barley overnight in 3 quarts water; simmer one hour. Heat il, add 
chopped vegetables, cook 2 minutes, add to barley, and slowly cook until
vegetables and barley are tender. Add more salt and pepper if necessary;
1 tablespoon peanut butter improves the flavor. If too thick, more water
may 
be added.
