NOTES ON THE AUTHOR Irvin R. Kuenzli has served for 13 years as national executive secretary of the American Federation of Teachers. Before accepting this post, Wr. Kuenzli served for nearly 20 years as teacher, principal and superintendent in several school systems in Ohio. He has served on several national educational coumissions and committees, and is a member of the national committee on education of the American Federation of Labor. For several years, he has also served as secretary of the Committee on Education for the annual conventions of the American ?ederation of Labor. In 1948, It. Kuenzli and his wife flew around the world to study educational problems in many nations, and to encourage visiting among the teachers of the world as a means of promoting international friendship and world peace. On this trip, IA. Kuenzli served as a consultant to the Labor Education Division of the U.S. Army in Japan. He also served as consultant to the new teachers union of Japan which has enrolled nearly 95 percent of the teachers of Japan in an organization affiliated with the trade union movement. Mr. Kuenzli is co-author, with Dr. Floy Reeves and Dr. Lester Kirkendall, of a book published by the American Federation of Teachers, in 1948, entitled "Goals for American Education.*
