National Archives, September 23, 1805
Letter of Sept. 11, 1837, from Major J. Plympton, U.S. Army, to Comr. of Indian Affairs re payment made to Indians in 1819 for lands at Fort Snelling under terms of this agreement. (OIA, LR, St. Peter's, P-210, 1837) Note: Treaty printed in Kappler, p. 1031; and in American State Papers: Indian Affairs, 1:754. The original signed treaty is not in the Indian Treaty File (RG 11). The treaty was not ratified by the Senate until April 16, 1808, and was never proclaimed by the President. In the "consolidated files" of the General Accounting Office (RG 217) is what appears to be a contemporary printing of this agreement, together with some related documents.
