The Bertolt Brecht Files of the International Copyright Bureau in
London (1949-1998)-Information on the Reception of Brecht in
England, on Translators and Composers, With Two Previously
Unknown Letters by Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel
This essay illustrates the status of the Brecht documents belonging to
the International Copyright Bureau in London, a collection that is now
part of the accessible Brecht archive. Following a short overview of the
collection, the essay offers insight into extensive correspondence from
1949 to 1998 between the Copyright Bureau and translators, directors,
and artists. The importance to Brecht of London theater, the British
reception of his work, and the myriad musical settings of his plays is
made apparent. The essay finishes with two letters from Bertolt Brecht
and Helene Weigel and a list of all those mentioned in the collection.
Der Aufsatz informiert Ober den Brecht-Akten-Bestand des International
Copyright Bureaus, London, der sich nun im Bertolt-Brecht-Archiv
befindet und fOr die Forschung zuginglich ist. Nach einer kurzen
inhaltlichen Bestandsaufnahme folgt ein Einblick in die umfangreiche
Korrespondenz zwischen dem Copyright Bureau und Ubersetzern,
Regisseuren sowie KQnstlern aus der Zeit von 1949 bis 1998. In diesem
Zusammenhang verweist der Aufsatz auf die Bedeutung der Londoner
Theaterproduktionen fOr Brecht, auf die Brecht-Rezeption in England
und die Vielfalt musikalischer Interpretationen seiner StQcke. Neben der
Edition von je zwei Briefen Bertolt Brechts und Helene Weigels werden
am Ende alle in dem Bestand enthaltenen wichtigen Institutionen und
Personen aufgef~hrt.
