SIAMESE LEGATION, 
East Gloucester, ffa$s., September 4, 1902. 
 SIR: Permit me to express to you, on behalf of my Government and the members
of the legation, their sincere gratification at the President's most happy
escape from serious injury in yesterday's alarming accident. We heartily
regret that he should have received even slight injury, and sincerely hope
that he will speedily recover from the effects of the shock he must have
experienced on that regrettable occasion.

 SIR: Acknowledging the receipt of your note of the 4th instant, I have the
honor to inform you that I am charged by the President to say that he appreciates
sincerely the gratification which the Government of Siam and the members
of the Siamese legation have expressed at his recent escape from serious
injury. 
 He directs me to express his thanks for the kind sentiments expressed in
your note.
