Career wise, do you think that your work here has met your expectations or helped you achieve goals that you had in terms of your professional career?
Oh yes, definitely. They made it possible that I could have gone on to graduate school, which is something that I just didn't want to do. So there were plenty of opportunities to get places and do things. I've taken other course through periods of time to learn new techniques and they've always been very supportive of that. I also left the Lab for six years after I got married---my husband worked for the New Zealand counterpart of the Forest Products Lab and I emigrated to New Zealand for five years and had a job there in wood chemistry---slightly different aspects of course. That was also very good training. Then my husband was offered a job back here and we ended up coming back---he was more at the University---and I just kind of fell right back into my old position after six years.
Did you maintain a relationship with the Lab while you lived down in New Zealand?
Yes with my mentor, our best man, and every time I came home to visit family I came here to the Lab and visited with friends. There were aspects of our work that were still in common with what I was doing in New Zealand so we kept in touch that way and were helping each other out. They were very good about that too.
